Today, we are beginning a new (but temporary) phase of our relationship – a long distance phase. As I write this, Niall is making his way over to London via Bandar Seri Begawan and Dubai, to stay with family for an uncertain period of time. All we know is that he will definitely be back for his new job, which he is due to begin in the new year, but whether he will be away for two or more months is unclear at this stage. The uncertainty is the hardest part of this situation; but, we are luckier than others in long distance relationships because at least we know that he is coming home before the end of the year.
A long distance relationship is something that neither of us ever wanted to be in, but often these situations occur out of necessity. We have talked at length over the last year about how we feel about the next few months and how we will manage the separation, so at least we are both going into this on the same page. I am hoping that as the days/weeks/months pass and Niall’s intentions become clearer, that this long distance phase will become easier to deal with for the both of us. For the moment, let’s keep our fingers cross that he has a safe journey to London.
