Little River is a tiny town situated on the highway between Christchurch and Akaroa on the Banks Peninsula, and is a natural resting point on this drive.
The Little River Gallery and cafe is well worth a look if you need a break from driving, and both were bustling with people during my visit. If you’re after some local gifts and artwork to take home, the gallery’s shop is full of some very lovely and quaint pieces that will tempt you and your wallet. I know I really struggled with taming temptation here!
I also took a short wander around town and stopped by at the Little River Craft Station, which is housed in the town’s old historic train station (complete with a train out back!). This cute building was overflowing with trinkets and food goods that had been collected or made by the locals, and I really loved exploring the nooks and crannies during my very brief stay here.
